chemical weathering

Image
chemical w eathering occurs when rock dissolves in water or week acids. water runs through tiny holes in lime stones and dissolves some of it. as the water runs through the holes in the rock and into the caverns, it starts the process of erosion. the water evaporates into caverns and deposits particles of rock that eventually build up to form stalactites and stalagm ites.

Why stones and rocks in rivers or near the sea are usually smooth?

it is caused by constant mechanical weathering. fast flowing water carries sediment and can move pieces of rock , which bump and break pieces off one another. Gritty sediment acts like sandpaper as it washes over the rocks. it wears away the surface, making it smooth - just like when you file your nails.

Mechanical weathering

Mechanical  weathering happens when rock is broken into smaller pieces. one way it can is when water gets into holes in the rock and then freezes, it expands: this cracks the rock.

How does weathering occur

Weathering occurs in three different ways: .     mechanical weathering .     chemical weathering  .     organic weathering

Weathering and Erosion

weathering is when rock is broken down into smaller pieces due to atmospheric conditions.  When sediment and fragments of rock are moved from one place to another by wind or water, the process is called erosion .
