chemical weathering

chemical weathering occurs when rock dissolves in water or week acids. water runs through tiny holes in lime stones and dissolves some of it. as the water runs through the holes in the rock and into the caverns, it starts the process of erosion. the water evaporates into caverns and deposits particles of rock that eventually build up to form stalactites and stalagmites.
